Increasing capacity in Warkworth

Warkworth’s population is expected to grow significantly over the next decades with more than 20,000 people anticipated to move to the area. To support this growth, we have a $450m+ infrastructure programme underway that includes a now complete new pump station, transfer pipeline and start-of –the-art facility at Snells Beach, replacing the Warkworth Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The map shows where the improvements have created additional capacity for new connections downstream of the Elizabeth Street bottleneck, and where there is no capacity until all the improvements are completed, expected in late 2027.

What does this mean for property developers?

  • If you are planning to build in Warkworth, please contact us before you invest in the resource consent process.
  • Auckland Council may still grant resource consents, but with conditions that developments cannot connect to the wastewater network until the growth servicing pipeline is completed.
  • We are honouring commitments made through approved consents – anyone with an existing resource or building consent – with a current commitment of a public wastewater connection – will still be able to connect, provided all relevant consent conditions have been met.
